Film Training Manitoba
SWIFT 2024
“On Saturday and Sunday, November 30 and December 1, 2024, Film Training Manitoba (FTM), with partners and sponsorship support from 21 organizations, conducted the third annual Canada’s Supporting Women in Film Trades (SWIFT) Conference. This event has sold-out every year well in advance of the start date with 100 participants in attendance.” - Film Training Manitoba
Another year, another SWIFT conference, and this year, there were some fantastic speakers like Michelle Nadon (Media Intelligence), Dr. Hygiea Casiano and Tina Keeper.
Photographing and videoing this conference again this past November was, once again, a pleasure.
SWIFT 2023
“Canada’s Supporting Women in Film Trades (SWIFT) Conference 2023 sold out a month before the event, with nearly 200 people in attendance. The conference evaluations had 99.4% of the participants agreed or strongly agreed that the conference helped to develop their skills in jobs and careers.” - Film Training Manitoba
My favourite time of the year, Film Training Manitoba’s SWIFT Conference was even bigger during their second year. With guests like Former Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean, Former Winnipeg Mayor Susan Thompson, and Crown Attorney with the Manitoba Prosecution Chantal Boutin, the three days of keynote speakers and panelists was so fulfilling. I am so proud to have once again documented this conference with photos and videos.
Camera Lab:
Bridging the Gap Between DSLR's to Cinematic Systems
“This 2-day course is for female-identified, trans, and non-binary adults who understand DSLR/mirrorless manual camera operation and want training with cinema cameras and cinematography. This course trains individuals with a general understanding of videography or photography to gain confidence and an understanding of cinema camera systems and the possibility of furthering their careers in the industry.” - Film Training Manitoba
SWIFT 2022
“This first of its kind event in Canada will be the inaugural conference held at RRC Polytechnic’s new Innovation Centre. SWIFT is part of FTM’s multifaceted training and recruitment strategy to have significantly more women entering and advancing in Manitoba’s film trades over the next five years.” - Film Training Manitoba
It was such a privilege to be able to attend, film, and photograph this event. It was inspiring to listen to the speakers as well as the participants about how much this type of event means to them. I think Film Training Manitoba is creating a pathway for more of these types of events and networking opportunities for women in film.
