My Background
Photography
Ever since I purchased my first DSLR in 2013, I have been addicted to taking pictures.
It started with nature and wildlife and slowly expanded to portraits, posters, art, and live events.
I’ve taken pictures of a number of musicians, for both their concerts and their posters/album artworks.
I’ve photographed live theatre productions and rehearsals for promotions, as well as promotional photos for Brandon University, the Brandon Festival of the Arts, Klinic Community Health in Winnipeg, and The Gargoyle Theatre.
Videography
The first memory I have of filming something was when I had my first hamster, Keeah (named after my favourite children’s book character). I was obsessed with Playmobile, and they were the perfect size to make a monster movie with my hamster, eating food out of a baby stroller to make it look like she was eating a baby (I had an interesting imagination)
In high school, you could always find me taking videos of my friends, and I would use those videos to make little music videos on iMovie.
Then when I went to RRC Polytech, I finally had the chance to film things on a higher level, and I found my love of producing. And now, I know how to film and edit high-quality video and audio and I have a blast creating projects for fun!
Writing
It took me a long time to like reading, and once I did I was hooked, and writing my own stories. In Grade 9, my English teacher asked if I would like to take part in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) At the time, all I had to do was write a 50,000-word story in a month and I could get 5 printed copies for free. And I did it. It was a crazy dystopian world, (since Hunger Games, Maze Runner, and Divergent were all the rage) and even though I cringe reading it now, it was an accomplishment!
Since then I have fallen in love with writing plays, screenplays, essays, and articles. And while I wait to save money for a Masters in Creative Writing (I have it all planned out) I’ll be writing creatively for fun and writing articles for pay. That is until I can possibly get funding for my creative works. But that’s down the road.
Art & Design
As a kid, you would never see me without a pencil and a piece of paper. My parents would take me to church and I would be in the back pew with my pens and markers, drawing up a storm.
My grandmother used to tell people that I would work for Disney one day, that I draw so much that I’d be crazy to not go into animation.
One of my majors in University was, drawing. I learned how to paint with oils and I fell in love, but I still go back to pen and pencil.
Then I got an iPad and I fell in love with digital art. I draw for fun, I draw for work, I draw for stress-relief, and sometimes I made something cool that I get to share with people.
The difference between my art and my designs is that I specifically create art to make people think. To move people, to start a conversation. I design for fun, or for aesthetic release. It’s nice to have both in my life.
